FALL RECREATION EVENTS

 

Intro to GX Classes

On Monday, 8/30 and Tuesday 8/31 we are offering complimentary Intro Classes at the Malkin Athletic Center. These classes will break down the basic fundamentals of these popular GX formats to get you ready to join in the fun this Fall!

These classes are complimentary for MAC facility members. Pre-registration is not necessary. Please arrive at the front desk up to 30 minutes prior to the start time of this class to sign in and pick up a class pass. Please contact Dawn Stenis at macfit@fas.harvard.edu for additional information.

Yoga on the Quad: Join the Harvard Community For An Outdoor OM

Harvard Recreation & The Center for Wellness are pleased to present YOGA ON THE QUAD

Location: The Quad outside the Malkin Athletic Center, Harvard University

This complimentary all-levels yoga class will feature Harvard Recreation and Harvard Wellness Center yoga instructors, who will lead Harvard students, staff, alumni, and affiliates through a 2-hour yoga class outside in the sun. This complimentary event is a great way for new and experienced yogis to come together as a community and celebrate yoga, exercise and well-being. Back 2 School Bootcamp: Need to jumpstart your Fall Semester exercise routine?

Back to School Bootcamp is perfect for anyone at any level of fitness experience, and its free!

This special event will be broken into 3 sections all packed into 1 educational and fun hour!

First the MAC trainers will coach you through a 40 minute circuit style routine guaranteed to get you on the right track with your fitness routine this semester. Next, the trainer will lead a Q & A session where participants will have the opportunity to ask their burning fitness related questions. At the end the trainers will demonstrate recovery techniques using the foam roller. All participants will receive a hand out outlining the circuit.

Specialty Classes: Fall 2010 Specialty classes will run for 8 weeks beginning October 2nd. Registration will be available online between Monday, 9/20 and Wednesday 9/29. Strength Clinics: NEW Strength Clinics have just been added to the Fall line-up at Hemenway Gymnasium. Strength Training for Women, Kettlebell Clinic, The Benchpress & Progressive Power Lifting will run for 6 weeks beginning October 4th. Classes are limited to 3-6 participants allowing each participant to receive individual attention which will allow them to progress each week. *Facility Membership is required* Fee: $120.00 per person per clinic. Basic Strength Training Orientations: Looking for an efficient workout? Want to learn how to use the machines safely and properly? Register for a Strength Training Orientation at the MAC or Hemenway. Strength Training orientations are 45-minute sessions, during which members are led through a row of circuit

machines by a certified personal trainer. During the Basic STO, members will be provided with a list of the circuit machines  along with information on technique, moderation, progression, and machine adjustments. Please note that these are not customized  personal training sessions.  Members will not be shown how to use dumbbells or cable machines, and will not be exercising during the STO.

Employment: Lifeguards
The Department of Athletics is accepting applications for lifeguards to work 17 hours or less per week. Must possess current certification in the following areas: American Red Cross and/or equivalent certification in Lifeguard Training, Community First Aid Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
