Dear colleagues in CoHSL,
The continued devaluation of the EKEBI as an institution and of its staff is a serious
problem. How can we help/offer support through CoHSL (and potentially the MGSA as well)?
I recall a petition circulated months ago, but do not see a place for us to show unified
(or individual) support/protest, now that the issue is raised again in public. Would the
CoHSL leadership wish to mount/submit a collective protest -- in the immediate future?
From my personal experience in tracking translations of
modern Greek literature (for the CENSUS Update) on the website of the EKEBI, and also in
the EKEBI's Library in Athens (with Ms. Magda Tsoumi's assistance as librarian),
the EKEBI has continuously provided (over at least a decade) unique and excellent
information useful towards teaching and research, as well as towards guiding purchases and
enhancing library collections connected with Hellenic Studies world-wide.
I hope that this valuable institution will be preserved and supported in pursuing its
mission. If CoHSL prepares a letter of protest, please include my signature. Thank you.

*UNION WORKERS EKEBI*email: se@ekebi.gr<mailto:se@ekebi.gr>
Athens January 24, 2014
We, the employees of the National Book Centre, though:
- abandoned by the Ministry of Culture for more than a year and
- unpaid for more than five months
tried, wherever possible, with respect to our business and understanding
the general conditions, to meet the obligations of EKEBI.
Unfortunately, after the latest developments can no longer work in the same
way.
documentation for minimum days remaining until discussed the bill in the
House should devote our energies in trying to not abolished EKEBI and
continue operations with proper independence and the necessary expertise.
From the field of Greek book, we feel that all these
years as workers have
served with as much consistency and adequacy could show, we
ask that you
understand our position and to support us in this our last attempt.
