Dear Colleagues,
The University of Michigan Special Collections Library is offering for
sale by closed bid more than 300 lots consisting of duplicate books
and other material accumulated over the course of several decades, or
several thousand books and serials in all. The material offered for
sale is representative of the collecting strengths of the Special
Collections Library, including items in the following areas: American
Literature, English Literature, Children's Literature, History,
Mathematics, Social Movements, Transportation History, and more.
Much of the material offered for sale came from donations of entire
private collections that inevitably contained titles already held.
Most of the material is not "ex library". We are sincerely grateful
to our many donors who recognized that even in giving us duplicates,
they could significantly benefit the University of Michigan Library.
Proceeds from this sale will be used to support future acquisitions
for the Special Collections Library.
I realize that most people cannot travel here to see the lots, but I
think you will find that the descriptions are deep enough (especially
for high end books with reserves) that you may be interested in
bidding sight unseen. All the descriptions are available online at:
http://www.lib.umich.edu/special-collections-library/book-sale
Bids are due March 25.
Sincerely,
Peggy Daub, Director
Special Collections Library
