Thank you to those who have already submitted information about your
respective collections. The Modern Greek Studies Association Library
Committee would like to make this page on research collections as
complete and informative as possible, so again I would like to ask
librarian colleagues working with Modern Greek Studies collections to
add a contribution for your own institutions for the enhancement of the
Web site and the benefit of students and scholars (see:
). It need not be overly
detailed, especially if you have external links to further information.
Once new write-ups are added, then the link above will be to an index
page with further links to individual entries. Below is the template for
you to follow. Feel free to hyperlink to finding aids for manuscript
materials, articles you have published on your collection(s), etc.
Please send your contributions directly to me; I will copyedit and then
forward them on to the MGSA Webmaster for uploading. Feel free to
contact me with any questions.
Best,
George I. Paganelis, Chair

II. History and Description
Comprising the holdings of the former Speros Basil
Vryonis Center for the Study of Hellenism, this Collection of some
70,000 volumes was donated to Sacramento State as the Tsakopoulos
Hellenic Collection in December 2002. The Vryonis Center was initially
established in Los Angeles in 1985 by Dr. Speros Vryonis, Jr., a
scholar of Byzantium and Ottoman Studies, in memory of his late son
Speros Basil. This early collection formed the core of the Vryonis
Center Collection that would in 1989 come to reside in Rancho Cordova,
California. There the Collection was further enhanced under successive
directors until its transfer to Sacramento State.
