The Gennadius Library is holding a group art
exhibition<http://www.ascsa.edu.gr/index.php/gennadius/eventDetails/johannes-gennadius-and-his-world/>featuring
commissioned works by 65 local artists who
were inspired by the personality and the world of the founder of the
Library, Johannes Gennadius (1844-1932).
The works will be on display inside the Library and in the surrounding
gardens, until June 26.
The artworks are for sale and part of the proceeds will benefit the Library.
Born in Athens, in 1844, to George Gennadius, Johannes Gennadius was an
eminent diplomat and scholar, who
donated his personal
library<http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B02E0DA1739EF3AB…DE>,
containing approximately 30,000 rare volumes to the American School of
Classical Studies in Athens.
Today, the Gennadius Library owns a rich collection of over 116,000 books
and rare bindings, archives, manuscripts,
and works of art illuminating the Hellenic tradition and neighboring
cultures.
