Colleagues,
For list-members in the extended Dallas-Fort Worth area and for those
who may be in the region in late October:
"The Codex, the Digital Image, and the Problems of Presence"
A lecture by Michael F. Suarez, S.J.
Director, Rare Book School
Professor of English and University Professor, University of Virginia
This lecture will consider how digital surrogates are changing the
ways we think about books and what the implications of these changes
might be. In turn, it asks how books and bibliographical reflection
might usefully change the ways we think about 'books' delivered to us
as digital images. Insights from art history, philosophy, and
anthropology are adduced to enrich our thinking about this timely
subject.
