Bibliosleuths all :
I just got this challenging enquiry :
In the 1812 first edition of Childe Harold's
Pilgimage,
Byron included a transcription of a prospectus in Greek, dated Trieste
1799
for a translation to be made into [modern] Greek of
Barthélemy's Travels
of
the Young Anacharsis .... There appear to have been
dozens of editions in
french
and translations from the French into English German,
Italian, and other
European vernaculars, but I have never come across the one in Greek
promoted
by Byron. It was to be in 12 volumes like the Italian
... One of the three
authors
of the prospectus ... was Byron's romaic teacher
in Athens, Marmarotouri.
I have checked the usual library sources including WorldCat and
HEAL (
http://www.unioncatalog.gr/
but can find no listings for a Greek edition like this
Suspect it may never have received enough financial support get printed and
published
However ANY information about this would be most welcome
