In the Fall of 2013 we requested participation for a study of academic
librarians concerning the skills, knowledge, abilities or dispositions that
are most respected and/or admired by academic librarians, and how these
qualities might, or might not, be related to generational membership,
career length, broad job function, and institutional classification.
The article reporting the results of that study, “Cross-Generational
Valuing Among Peer Academic Librarians” has been accepted and is scheduled
for publication in *College & Research Libraries *in July 2015. The
pre-print, dated June 8, 2014, is currently available in the pre-print
section of the *College & Research Libraries* web site.
While our response rate from younger academic librarians was sufficient for
the study, it was quite low in comparison to the response from older
academic librarians. We believe that, in order to gain a clearer
understanding of the issue of cross-generational valuing in an academic
library setting, we need to hear from more Millennial librarians. We
proposed this new study to ACRL for 2015 conference and it has been
accepted for presentation.
*So we are asking your assistance. If you are an academic librarian under
the age of 32 w**e’d like to invite you to participate by taking this
revised eight-question survey that should take under 10 minutes to
complete. *
