amphitheater of the NHRF (48th Konstantinou St., Athens) at 19:00 and
with
free admission, three interesting lectures will take place.

On the occasion of the proclamation of Athens as an International Book
Capital for 2018, the Institute of Historical Research (IEE), the National
Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF), organizes in January 2018 a series of
lectures titled "The Book as a Text and Object".
The circle will illuminate aspects of the history of the book during the
Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods, and will explore perceptions around
the book as text and subject. The First Round of Speeches of 2018 falls
under the Cultural Events program of the National Hellenic Research
Foundation and is addressed to the broad but also the specialized audience.
From Tuesday, January 16th and every Tuesday until
January 30th, at the
amphitheater of the NHRF (48th Konstantinou St., Athens) at
19:00 and with
free admission, three interesting lectures will take place. Here is the

Tuesday, January 16,
"The transformations of the book, The passage from the cylinder to the
code" - Stamatis Bushees, Assistant Professor, Department of Greek
Literature, School of Classical and Humanistic Studies, Democritus
University of Thrace.
"From their capitals to the micrographic codes, book format and text
structure" - Agamemnon Tselikas, Head of Historical and Palaeographical
Records of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation.
"Words for the Book, The Book Through Words" - Niki Tsironi,
Byzantinologist, Institute of Historical Research, National Hellenic
Research Foundation, and Angeliki Stasinou, Conservator of archival
material and books, General Archives of the State.
Tuesday 23 January
"Distrust in the printed book and parallel use of the handwriting" -
Triantaphyllos Sklavenitis, Historian, Emeritus Research Director,
Institute of Historical Research, National Research Foundation.
"Monastery libraries of Mount Athos" - Zissis Melissakis, Principal
Researcher, Institute of Historical Research, National Hellenic Research
Foundation.
"The Library of the Archaeological Society of Athens as a Historical
Presumption" - Martin Schäfer, Archaeologist, Director of the Library of
the Archaeological Society of Athens.
Tuesday 30 January
"Byzantine Bookbinding Jewelery - Issues of Pixelism and Relationship with
the Text" - Constantinos Choulis, Associate Professor, Department of
Preservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, TEI Of Athens.
"The testimonies of Byzantine descendants, code decorations and doctrinal
disputes" - Niki Tsironi, Byzantinologist, Institute of Historical
Research, National Hellenic Research Foundation.
"Between speech and image, visual expressions and uses of writing in Middle
Byzantine manuscripts" - Kallirrois Linardos, Historian of the Art of
Byzantium and the Western Middle Ages, Department of Theory and History of
Art, School of Fine Arts.
