The Brazil Studies Program at Harvard’s
David Rockefeller Center for
Latin American Studies presents
Innovating for Science and Development in Brazil
A presentation by
Dr. Miguel Nicolelis
Dr. Nicolelis is one of the world’s foremost neuroscientists for his
work on neural ensemble recording animal behavior and neuroprosthetic
design. Even though Dr. Nicolelis has become internationally famous as
Brazil’s person nearest to winning a Nobel Prize, his work on the
integration of education and science for development in Brazilian poor
communities has proven to be even more revolutionary than his work as a
scientist. Bringing high quality education and permanent interaction
with technology to underprivileged children randomly selected to
participate in the International Institute of Neurosciences located in
Natal and Macaiba, Brazil, he has proven wrong the skeptics who believe
that technological and social innovation are beyond Brazil’s
capabilities sparking a new movement for change in Brazilian education
and society. For more information on
