Documentary on Brazilian Music

The Institute of Contemporary Art of Boston (ICA) and the Consulate General of Brazil in Boston present the New England premiere of the film Beyond Ipanema.

Brazilian music – bossa nova, samba, funk, and many other genres – has captivated audiences worldwide for decades. What makes Brazilian music such a powerful cultural force?  This fast-paced documentary features interviews with famous Brazilian artists – including Carmen Miranda, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Tom Zé, and Seu Jorge – as well as clips of their performances.  The film also shows many non-Brazilian artists who share their passion for Brazilian music and discuss its great international prestige and influence.

Co-directors Guto Barra and Béco Dranoff will be present to introduce the film.
