Cambridge, Mass. --
The Ivy League has announced the names of the 80 student-athletes --
including 10 from Harvard -- who have been named to the winter 2007-08
Academic All-Ivy League team.
The honorees are
starters or key reserves on officially recognized varsity teams who
have cumulative grade-point averages of at least 3.0. Each of the eight
Ivy League schools nominates five men and five women from its eligible
student-athletes.
Harvard’s swimming and diving programs led the
way this year with a total of three selections – two from the men’s
team and one from the women’s.
Senior swimmers Pat Quinn and
Geoff Rathgeber helped the Crimson to the Eastern championship this
season. Quinn was a four-time EISL champion in 2008, winning the 200
freestyle relay, setting a pool record; the 400 medley relay, setting
pool, meet and EISL records; the 200 medley relay, setting a pool
record; and the 400 freestyle relay, setting a meet record. He also
placed third in 100 freestyle at the EISL Championships.
Rathgeber, a
seven-time EISL champion this season alone, helped set four pool
records during EISL Championships (200 IM, 400 medley relay, 200 free
relay, 200 medley relay). He tied for the Moriarty Trophy (high point
scorer) and claimed the Ulen Trophy for career high scoring. Competing
at the NCAA Championships March 27-29 in Federal Way, Wash.,
Rathgeber earned All-America honors in the 200 IM and honorable mention
All-America in the 400 IM. This is Rathgeber’s second Academic All-Ivy
selection (2006-07).
Women’s swimming and
diving's Samantha Papadakis, the Ivy League champion in one-meter
diving, shared honors as the Ivy League Championships Diver of the Meet
and was one of nine members of the Harvard women's swimming and diving
team to earn All-Ivy League recognition two weeks ago. Papadakis also
placed third in the three-meter diving. She finished her Ivy career
with two championships and eight top-four finishes—including three
runner-up honors—in her eight events at the meet. She is a five-time
All-Ivy selection.
