championships
MINNEAPOLIS -- Junior Geoff Rathgeber
completed his busy week
of competition by taking 23rd in a 40-man field in the 200-yard
backstroke Saturday at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships
at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Rathgeber swam
1:44.42 in the morning qualifying race to finish in the middle of a
crowded pack of swimmers who clocked between 1:44 and 1:45. That left
the Crimson entrant just off the pace to reach the evening finals, with
1:43.97 holding up as the last cut.
The event was the last of
three for Rathgeber at the NCAA meet, and it came on the heels of
top-20 national finishes in the 200 and 400 individual medleys.
Rathgeber took 11th in the 200 IM Thursday to earn All-America status,
while he was 20th in the 400 IM Friday. His finish Thursday gave the
Crimson six points in the team standings as Harvard finished in 34th
place at the championships.
