PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Harvard
ECAC Men's Swimming and Diving Team continued its winning ways by
taking its second-consecutive ECAC
Championship Sunday.
Harvard
completed the tournament with 524 points, 60 more than second-place
Johns Hopkins (464). Rider finished third with 385 points, while Yale
(353) and Marist (326) rounded out the top five. Twenty-six schools
swam at the meet.
On the third and final day of competition, sophomore Tommy
Gray
opened the swimming with a second-place finish in the 1650 freestyle,
earning 17 team points. Gray finished the race in 15:53.45, while
freshman teammate Jamie
Mannion was ninth with a time of 16:25.54.
Mannion
took eighth in the next event, the 200 back, touching the wall in
2:00.15 in the 'A' final. Senior Edward Jou placed 11th with a mark of
1:54.75.
In the 200 butterfly,
sophomore Robert
Lynch captured the event, finishing in 1:50.37. Junior Tim
Parent finished a close third (1:52.27), while sophomore Rick
McKellar (1:52.19), freshman Evan
Schindewolf (1:54.95) and sophomore Jeremy
Hoon placed ninth, 10th and 13th, respectively. Lynch's first-first
place finish clinched the victory for the Crimson.
Sophomore Simone
Melillo took second with a time of 2:03.71 in the 200 breaststroke,
while freshman Mike
Polino placed 14th (2:11.47).
In the 100 free, freshman Eric
Taylor and sophomore Tyler
Holland placed 5-6 with Taylor finishing in 46.96. Holland,
meanwhile, finished right behind Taylor in 47.07.
Finally
in the 400 free relay, the Harvard foursome of McKellar, Taylor,
Holland and Gray finished fifth with a collective time of 3:09.48
Harvard's
Conference Team (9-0, 8-0 EISL, 7-0 Ivy League) will compete March 6-8
as the
Crimson will serve as hosts of the 2008 EISL Championship at Blodgett
