Cromwell's win in the 100-yard backstroke in 48.02 seconds was one of his three top-three individual finishes, all in NCAA provisional qualifying times, as he led Harvard to fourth place behind only three ranked teams in Georgia's Bulldog Invitational. He also led off three top-three relay teams, including a second-place, NCAA "B"-cut performance in the 400 medley relay (3:17.97). The senior added another sixth-place individual finish and two other top-five relay showings. He met the NCAA "B" cut by placing second in the 200 back (1:44.82) and third in the 100 fly (48.64). Only four swimmers in Division I are listed with faster times than Cromwell in the 200 back, while only seven are ahead of his time in the 100 back on the national top times list.
