CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The
Harvard men's swimming and diving team sit atop the latest
CollegeSwimming.com Division I "mid-major" power rankings,
ranking Harvard the top team in the country.
The Crimson leads the
CollegeSwimming.com
poll with 194.22 points. Princeton is ranked second with 188.00.
Missouri State is third (184.69), followed by Navy (183.48), who
Harvard faces on Jan. 5, and Wright State (179.64).
Harvard is 3-0 in the Ivy
League this
season, having earned victories over Cornell, 161-139, Dartmouth,
226-72, and Columbia, 195-105.
The team also placed fourth
at the Georgia Invitational, as Pat
Quinn, Geoff
Rathgeber, Bill
Jones and David
Guernsey claimed second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in
3:00.25. Harvard was also
second in the 800 free relay as Sam
Wollner, Mason
Brunnick, Jones and Guernsey
finished in 6:38.58.
Rathgeber earned ECAC Men's
Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 5, as he won the 200-yard
individual medley and the 400-yard individual medley with times of
1:46.73 and 3:52.87, respectively, at the Georgia Invitational. He
also finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.40
seconds.

mid-major Division I poll is designed to support and promote
institutions that do not benefit from large football and basketball
television agreements. Institutions from the following conferences are
eligible to participate: America East, Atlantic 10, Big West, Colonial
Athletic Association, Horizon League, EISL, Metro Atlantic,
Mid-America, Mid-Continent, Missouri Valley, North Eastern, Patriot
League and Sun Belt. Additional schools may participate provided they
certify that their school awards seven or fewer men's swimming
scholarships.
Harvard returns to action at
Annapolis on
Saturday, Jan. 5 at noon, when the team visits Navy. The Crimson's next
home contest at Blodgett Pool is against Brown on Jan. 24.
