What to Bring/Wear to the Mountain
MONEY/LUNCH
Plan on bringing about $15-$20 for snacks and lunch. Ski lodge food is a bit more expensive than a normal café. You may not spend that much, but it’s always good to have it on hand just in case. Ski lodge food is not known for being very healthy, so if you have dietary restrictions/needs, please bring your own lunch (many people do this).
There will be granola bars for the trip up and goldfish/popcorn for the trip back. If you think you’ll need more food/drink on the way up/back, please feel free to bring some!
WARM CLOTHING
It can get VERY COLD on the mountain and you don’t want to be stuck with the wrong clothing. Cotton clothing is NOT recommended as it doesn’t dry quickly and will make you even colder when you sweat. If you’re unsure what kind of clothing to bring, please read the below list and ask a friend who has skied before.
It was -25⁰F at the summit on the Wintersession trip last January.
· Fleece, wool, or dry-fit long underwear shirt and pants.
· Another couple layers of fleece, wool, or dry-fit shirts/pants in case it’s really cold out. Layers are key if it’s below freezing outside.
· Warm socks made of fleece, wool, etc. – not the ones you wear to the mountain — bring an additional pair for skiing/riding.
· Water proof/wind proof pants and jacket to go over all your base layers.
· Warm hat, warm gloves, ski goggles, neck and face warmer or good scarf. Exposed skin will get frostbitten if it’s below freezing outside.
· Hand and toe warmers (Harvard will provide everyone with 1 pair of hand warmers and toe warmers!).

Additional Info from Brooklyn Boulders:
1. WAIVERS
All guests, regardless of whether or not they are climbing, need to fill out a waiver before entering the facility. So, please have your guests fill out our waiver ahead of time.
2. ATHLETIC SHOES--We advise all guests to wear athletic shoes to the party, particularly if you are hosting a large party, because we may not have enough climbing shoes or the right sizes on hand to fit all of your guests. Wearing athletic shoes ensures all guests can have a wonderful climbing experience.
3. A FRIENDLY REMINDER
Although it may look like a playground, Brooklyn Boulders Somerville is a state of the art training facility created for the advancement of climbing. Brooklyn Boulders is filled with climbers of all levels and (more importantly) of all ages. Parents, if you are new to BKBS or just need a refresher on our policies, here are some guidelines to ensure you get the most out of your visit:
-Please keep an eye on your child at all times.
-Please do not swing, pull, or hang on the ropes.
-Please do not run, push, or wrestle in the facility.
-When in all bouldering areas (walls without ropes): Please do not walk next to the climbing walls: climbers fall!
-Training areas (rings, weights, etc) are off limits to children under 14.
-Take turns!
Reach out to Nicole Pizzi (npizzi(a)fas.harvard.edu<mailto:npizzi@fas.harvard.edu>) with any questions.
Looking forward to climbing! See you all soon!
