Come audition for the Dudley House Spring Play!
In addition to looking for actors, we are also putting together our
production crew, so if you have interests or experience in lighting,
set design/carpentry, costumes, make-up, sound, poster/program design,
or stage management, please see below. We can use talents of all
sorts, and we can train you if you don't have prior experience.
Auditions:
Monday, February 14th / Wednesday, February 16th
7:00-10:00 p.m. each night
Dudley House (look for signs to direct you to the audition room)
No preparation necessary: We will ask you to do a cold reading from the
script and to do these readings solo, and possibly in groups.
Courtesy RSVP to dudley.drama(a)gmail.com so we know how many people to
expect on each night; but if you just feel moved just to show up that
night, just show up!
Who can audition?
Anybody. Invite a significant other, spouse, or friend to come along.
Preference for roles will be given to Dudley members/
Harvard students (both graduate and undergraduate), but staff and other
affiliates are welcome to audition and have had nice roles in past
productions. First-time actors, haven't-acted-since-high-school actors,
and experienced actors are all welcome.
The Play:
Tennessee Williams' SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH
Synopsis: Chance Wayne, a Hollywood gigolo determined to become a star,
teams up with Alexandra Del Lago, a washed-up Hollywood actress, on his
way back to his small-town home. The town clamors at the reappearance
of the charismatic Chance, who claims to have found fame and fortune in
Hollywood, while the mysterious Alexandra lies in a drunken stupor in
their hotel room. Chance is convinced Alexandra can make him a star, so
he protects her reputation while rediscovering his love for his
hometown sweetheart, Heavenly, whose heart he broke when he disappeared
to find fame. Chance's attempts to reignite his passion for the naive
Heavenly deeply angers her vengeful father, the cruel town "boss" who
will stop at nothing to see his daughter's lost innocence avenged.
Rehearsals:
We expect to rehearse 2 times a week on weekday evenings, with more
rehearsals nearer to the production date. Although we will accomodate
schedules as much as possible, we ask you not to audition if you expect
significant time conflicts in the next few months. All casted actors
will be expected to assist in various technical/production aspects of
the play as well.
Production and Backstage Roles:
Being part of a Dudley drama production is a unique way to get involved
with a diverse mix fo graduate and undergraduate students from all
across campus, while putting together a great artistic event. Even if
you don't have experience (but also if you do), we are looking for set
and lighting designers, make-up and costume managers, stage managers,
sound designers, house managers... you name it, we can use you! The
time commitment varies by position but allows you to get as involved as
you wish. Please contact us to discuss what you're interested in or if
you want to know more about certain roles.
