Contrary to my inability to complete the proofs quickly in class, the
questions are all correctly worded and I have photocopied the proofs and
left them in my box in littauer.

There will be one section tonight from 6:20 to 8:20, during which you
will receive your exam and we will go over the solutions.
Hope you are well,
Jacob
Is there still section this week (i.e. Wednesday) and if so, what's
going to be covered?

Does anybody have the solutions to Homework 5 that I can make a copy of?
I was out of town for the review session. Especially if there's any
undergrads living in the Quad, otherwise I could make a trip down to the
river...
Thanks,
Kai-Hua
Hi, everyone!
What does "assuming the best about the population variance" mean?
It's quite clear that, if we assume the "worst case," P is 0.5. (We need the biggest
sample here)
Then, the "best case" just mean that P=0? (In this case,we don't need sampling
because we know that everybody is same.)

1. After some discussion between Professor Sekhon and myself, we have
decided to make this week's hw due in section. This is so that we can go over the
solutions to the homework in the review session. We apologize if this
inconvenient; to us this seems preferable than not dicussing this
homework.
2. We remind each of you that this week's section is the review session.
As such, there will be one two-hour session, beginning at 6:20. For the
first part of this session, I will go over the solutions to the previous
two homeworks.
3. The second part of the session will be a question and answer period.
There is a great deal of material that is in principle 'up for grabs,' so
in order to keep this session orderly, you should be prepared to ask
questions about specific equations in the notes. Because I am involved in
the midterm, I cannot answer general questions like "What is on the
midterm?" "Should we study this?"
4. In preparing for the midterm, your focus should primarily be on the
notes and more specifically on the homeworks. The textbooks are important
but supplement the notes. Do not get too worked up about understand every
line in the textbooks.
Hope you are well,
Jacob
Hello All,
I've tweaked the lecture notes. The new notes are online. Tomorrow,
I will begin on page 120 with the slide entitled "Regression, It's
Finally Here". I plan to make it up to but not including multiple
regression.
