DUDLEY IMPROV/ACTING TROUPE GETS STARTED...
Interested in acting? Improvisation? Want to get together with other
Dudley members to practice in a casual and fun environment? Dudley's
Improv & Acting Troupe kicks off next Wednesday December 8th, 7 pm, at
the Grad Student Lounge at Dudley House.
At this first meeting we'll meet each other and do improvisational and
acting exercises. If there's interest, we'll meet regularly and also do
scene studies from plays and other theatrical work.
No previous experience is required, and though this is sent to the
Dudley list, feel free to invite friends who would be interested.

WANT TO BE JOIN A FILM SET?
Dudley members who are making short films this year are looking for
collaborators and other good help. If you are interested in taking part
of a video/film team in any capacity (as a cinematographer, editor,
sound technician, or just a pair of helping hands), contact me and I'll
give you a run-down of the projects that are seeking help. Previous
video experience is great, but even if you don't have any, the project
leaders can teach you or put you in other helpful positions. Should be
a fun way to collaborate with other Dudley members and put together a
project that you'll be proud of.
Contact me if you're interested and want more info.

1. SEEKING DIRECTORS FOR DUDLEY SPRING PLAY
Do you have a play that you've always wanted to direct? Dudley Drama is
looking for a director for its spring play-- it won't happen without
you! If you're interested, send me a short description of the play
that you have in mind (title, author, synopsis, cast composition, and
why you would like to do it), as well as a description of previous
directing experience you have. Please feel free to distribute this call
to friends or colleagues who have theater experience and would be
interested in directing.
Alternatively, Dudley could host a series of short plays. If you don't
want to commit to a full-length play, but would be interested in
directing a short play, please let me know.
Email me (or refer others) to bksun(a)fas.harvard.edu.
2. WANT TO MAKE A SHORT FILM?
If you want to get involved with making short films this year, the
deadline for sketching out a concept and description is FRIDAY,
NOVEMBER 26. Come up with a one paragraph description of your proposed
film, and email it to me before the deadline. You do not need to have
any previous filmmaking experience, a completed script, or a cast/crew.
If you don't have a camcorder or access to one, Dudley House has a
digital camcorder available for borrowing, as well as a dedicated
computer workstation for editing.
After the deadline, we will evaluate each proposal for feasibility and
then match up other Dudley members who can help you out with your film.
For those without previous experience, we will have sessions to show
basic use of the camcorder, as well as filmmaking techniques and
guidance with editing.
All potential filmmakers are strongly encouraged to attend to film
screenings and talks that are hosted by Dudley (see 4 & 5 below). All
invited speakers and filmmakers have been asked to talk about some
aspect of being a new filmmaker, and are a great resource.
As before, direct all questions/proposals/comments to
bksun(a)fas.harvard.edu.
3. IMPROV/SCENE STUDY TROUPE
Do you like acting? Dudley Drama is putting together a
improvisation/scene study troupe. If you've seen "Whose Line is it
Anyway?" or attended any of the local improv comedy clubs, you've seen
what it's like. You don't need previous experience, just a interest to
act and do scenes from plays and screenplays. Drop an email if you're
interested in participating, and keep an eye out for an organizational
meeting in the near future.
4. FILM SCREENING AND TALK ON DIRECTING: SHANDOR GARRISON PRESENTS

REMINDER FOR THIS COLUMBUS DAY MONDAY:
Dudley Drama & Film invites you to a free screening of:
A VILLAGE ACROSS THE WORLD (Documentary, 48 min, 2003)
and FAMILIAL BLISS
Monday, October 11, 7:30 p.m.
Harvard Film Archive, Room B-04
A Village Across the World follows a group of international
English-teaching volunteers into the cultural and emotional landscape
of a Chinese village. Tucked away in the mountains, the Huangtian
Village at first seemed a poor, forgotten outpost unaffected by dynamic
changes happening elsewhere in China. Yet the splash of the
volunteers' entry uncovered rich historical memories and changing power
structures that directed the life of the village. As the "foreigners"
became increasingly involved in the villagers' lives, both sides
reflected on the fruits and dilemmas of intercultural contact and
economic development. (Running time: 48 min, English + Chinese with
English subtitles)
Harvard filmmaker and director Ying Qian will be present, and will
answer questions about her films and filmmaking after the screening.

Remember to come to the Dudley Drama & Film Production introductory
meeting tonight, 7:30 p.m., at the Graduate Student Lounge (second
floor) of Dudley House.
This meeting is for Dudley members who are interested in participating
in this year's dramatic production and/or for those who would like to
make their own digital films. No prior experience is necessary. Dudley
members interested in just attending theater/film talks, outings,
screenings (i.e. NOT production aspects) need not attend, but are
welcome.
In this meeting, we will:
• Introduce the Dudley Drama/Film program and meet one another
• Review some of the past theater and film activities and preview some
of this year's events
• Present the schedule and plan for this year's productions
• See a sample of a completed Dudley film (about 10 minutes)
• Sign up for our Dudley resource list for directors, actors, film
editors, and so forth... which will allow you to collaborate with other
members in creative projects.
This meeting is important for us to get a measure of interest in the
theater and film areas and to help plan accordingly for the year. It
should be relatively brief, and your attendance is appreciated-- other
friends or colleagues with theater/film interests are welcome to come
along and to subscribe to our list (see below). If you can't make it,
but would like to do theater or film production activities this year,
please drop us an email.
For those who are planning on watching the presidential debate, we will
finish in plenty of time to get home to see it-- Dudley House is also
showing the debates as well, for those who want to stick around.
Look forward to meeting you tonight.
