Hi Ryan,
I downloaded the script and connected/tried connecting to nice.fas.harvard.edu.
If I don't input "mcole", the proccess aborts and I never get to the point of
being promptd for a password. However, when I'm asked for a password, I don't
see a "plink.exe" window. Instead I have a "c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe. So,
I tried putting the vncpasswd in the pop-up box and on random ocassions (I've
done this many times), I get so far as to be asked whether I'd like to have my
information stored. I say yes "y", hit enter, and get a message saying the
connection was unsuccessful.
I hope this helps. Thank you for your assistance!
Marie
Hi all-
Our apologies about book availability. The COOP should be bringing in
more copies of everything. Meanwhile, Littauer told us they had everything
on reserve, and hopefully we will hear from them soon regarding what happened
to Fox97. In the meantime:
-I will be putting several photocopies of the Fox97 reading in the Gov
Grad lounge (Littauer, mezzanine level) this afternoon around 3pm. Check
my mail folder (in the dark filing cabinet)
-We will put our personal copies of Fox07 and Cleveland on reserve at
Littauer as well

I'm trying to install the necessary software and have come up against 2
problems:
1- the link from the course webpage to the download of emacs doesn't seem to
work ('can't connect to server). I guess this will be a problem for everyone;
2- the HMDC_VNC file is an .exe file and so won't open on a mac- how can mac
users get around this?
thanks!
Lucy
Like others in the class, I ordered by Gov 1000 texts from Amazon and am
waiting for them to be deliered. So, I tried to do the readings for
week 1 and 2 from
library copies. All except the Fox 97 text (the main textbook) are
available on reserve at Littauer, but Fox 97 is conspicously absent and I
dno't see any copies available at any of Harvard libraries. I notified
the librarian of this fact on Thursday when I tried to locate it, but just
to check: has anyone been able to locate this text at a Havard library?
Is there any way to get a copy on reserve at Littauer? Thanks!
Best,
Becky
Hi, folks. Please pick one VNC session on one ice machine, and kill all
your extra VNC sessions. To kill a session, log on to the ice machine on
which the session exists (like ice1, e.g.), using the script or simply
SecureCRT, and type "vncserver -kill :XX", where XX is your two-digit VNC
session number. Thanks in advance for taking care of this! Below is a
list of everyone who has multiple sessions. Those who only have one live
session have been deleted from the list below. Please kill you extra
sessions!
Many thanks,
Ryan

Hello,
Do we have specific usernames for the VNC connection? I have been unsuccessful
on several attempts to login using somewhat intuitive names.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi all-
Could you let me know if you still haven't bought copies of the required
texts and plan to be taking the class? We're trying to assess how many
extra books the COOP should order.
Thanks-
Alison
Hi all-
I've heard that the bookstore has run out of everything but Fox97.
For those of you who haven't managed to locate copies of the other texts,
remember that we have put copies of all of the required and recommended
readings on reserve at Littauer. Also, you can always try Amazon or
borrowing from someone who took Gov 2000 last year.

Have a good weekend!

Hi guys-
Apologies that the link on our website for Emacs/ESS download went dead
since I last visited it. I had chosen this particular site because it had
a "one-click" installation process that made it very, very easy to install
might be able to get this installation script up and running again.
Unfortunately, the site administrators have stopped maintaining this
install script since last spring.
Instead, you can download XEmacs (very similar to Emacs) with ESS
from John Fox's website (our textbook author.) He outlines how one goes
through the configuration procedure manually.

See the "instructions" section, then section three of the pdf document.
Good luck!
