Monday, October 24 Central Asia and Caucasus Seminar "Ferghana Valley: The Heart of Central Asia" Baktybek Beshimov, Visiting Scholar, Davis Center 1730 Cambridge Street, 3rd Floor, Room S354 12:00-1:30 p.m. To kick off the Davis Center's week of Central Asian studies, Baktybek Beshimov, a visiting scholar at the Davis Center, will give a talk on current and future prospects for the Ferghana Valley, a dynamic region shared by Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The talk will be based on the book of the same name that Beshimov co-authored. Monday, October 24 Film Screening Xinjiang Uyghur Film: Sarang (Crazy) Uyghur with English subtitles Introductory talk by Mettursun Beydulla 1737 Cambridge Street (Knafel Building), 2nd Floor, Room K262 7:30-9:30 p.m. Sarang is one of the best-loved Uyghur movies, and now it is the first Uyghur movie to be available with English subtitles. This lively mixture of comedy and tragedy, set and filmed in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, is based on a short story by the celebrated author Memtimin Hoshur. Wednesday, October 26 Film Screening The Desert of Forbidden Art (2010) Directed by Tchavdar Georgiev and Amanda Pope Introduction by Anna Wexler Katsnelson, Assistant Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures, Princeton University 1730 Cambridge Street, Concourse Level, Room S020 (Belfer Case Study Room) 7:00 p.m. This screening is made possible by Title VI funding from the US Department of Education.
