Harvard Football alums, Friends and fans,
I'm sorry to report that Dan Adam, a 1997 Harvard graduate who played three
years of JV football, passed away this past Saturday (October 25th). Adam
was a Wisconsin native who was working at the Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren
law firm in Milwaukee.
The final cause of death has not yet been determined but the medical
examiner's office informed the family that preliminary results indicated
that Dan was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy and may have sustained
some type of cardiac event. Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle
which can be present for a number of years without causing significant
symptoms. The heart loses its ability to pump blood and, in some instances,
heart rhythm is disturbed, leading to irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias.
Usually, the exact cause of the muscle damage is never found. Unlike many
other forms of heart disease that affect middle-aged and older persons,
certain types of cardiomyopathy can, and often do, occur in the young.
Further information may be forthcoming from the medical examiner's office
to clarify the preliminary findings.
Dan's funeral arrangements will be held by Krause Funeral Home, 12401 W.
National Avenue, New Berlin, WI (262-786-8009). Visitation will be from 4
PM - 8 PM on Wednesday, October 29 with a prayer service at 7 PM. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9540 W.
Forest Home Avenue, Hales Corners at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 30.
Final committal will occur immediately after the Mass at St. Adalbert's
Cemetery, 3801 S. 6th Street, Milwaukee (between Howard and Holt Avenues).
If you wish to send cards or memorials, the address of Dan's parents,
Dianne and Anton (Tony) Adam, is:
5521 S. Kurtz Road
Hales Corners, WI 53130
The Harvard Varsity Club is sending flowers to his parents on behalf of the
Friends of Harvard Football. If anyone is interested in sending flowers,
the funeral home recommends Alfa Florists (414) 475-7080.
