Hello again Harvard Football alums, Friends and fans,
Thought I'd pass on news regarding Harvard Football players past and future:
1) Past -- David Sauve '82, a three-year letterwinner for the Crimson
football team, has been named President of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the
CFL (Canadian Football League). A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Sauve went on
to play defensive end for the Tiger-Cats for six years following graduation
from Harvard and he was a member of the 1986 Grey Cup winning Hamilton
team. He owns seven Hamilton-based Tim Hortons franchises and has pledged
to donate his entire salary as Team President to charity, including Chedoke
McMaster Children's Hospital, the Tim Horton Children's Foundation and the
Scleroderma Society. For more, visit the Tiger-Cats online at
www.tigercats.on.ca.
2) Future -- Chris Pizzotti and David Paine (soon to be '08)
A double play for Harvard
It's poised to land Pizzotti, Paine
The Boston Globe
By Mike Grimala, 2/4/2004
Perhaps no football player in Eastern Mass. has performed under more
intense scrutiny the past four years than Reading's Chris Pizzotti. The
6-foot-5-inch, 215-pound quarterback has been a prospect since Day 1, and
today Pizzotti officially can sign his letter of intent to Harvard.
"It's the complete package," said Pizzotti of the university. "It's a great
combination of athletics and academics. Everything about the school just
felt like the right fit."
Pizzotti, who threw for 19 touchdowns this season (bringing his career
total to 40), will be joined by Bishop Feehan's David Paine, who also has
committed to the Crimson.
"I've always liked the school," said Paine, a 6-3, 270-pound offensive
lineman, "and when I talked to their coaches, I liked how they were very
business-like. That suits my style. The whole program is always on top of
the Ivy League, and it's a great education."
Some of the area's other recruits might have something to say about the Ivy
League standings, however.
Everett's Frank Nuzzo, the Division 1 Player of the Year, has announced he
will attend Brown, while a pair of Swampscott standouts, Jason Blydell and
Ryan Mahoney, have committed to Dartmouth.
Nuzzo, a 6-1, 210-pound outside linebacker, piled up more than 100 tackles
for undefeated Everett last season in leading the team to a third straight
Super Bowl win.
Blydell and Mahoney led Swampscott to a 12-1 record and a Super Bowl berth.
"We're good friends," said Mahoney, "so we should have a lot of fun there.
The atmosphere was great."
Malden defensive end Breno Giacomini (6-8, 240) has accepted a full
scholarship to Louisville.
"The coaches down there think he can add a lot of weight and strength,"
said Rich Cullen, Giacomini's coach at Malden. "They really like him."
Thanks for your continued support of Harvard Football!
