Lawler Named To Academic All-District I University Division Men's At Large

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.-Harvard senior James Lawler has been named to the 2005
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I University Division Men's At
Large Team, as was released Thursday. Lawler, an NCAA Qualifier in the 100
and 200 Butterfly, helped the Crimson to a perfect 8-0 dual record and the
Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League Championship.
Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate
athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale). They must have reached sophomore athletic and academic
standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full
academic year. Nominated athletes must have participated in 50% of the
team's games at their position.
Lawler, a Romance Language and Literature concentrator, is the current
Harvard record holder in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly. He was named
first-team All-Ivy in the 100 and 200 Fly, 200 and 400 Free Relay and the
200 and 400 Medley Relay after winning each event at the 2005 EISL
Championships. He also swam the 200 and 400 Medley Relay, as well as the
800 Free relay at the NCAA Championships.
Lawler has helped Harvard to three EISL titles. He took 2003-04 off to
train for the US Olympic Trials and was a finalist in the 100m Fly and
semifinalist in the 200m Fly. Lawler was a two-time first-team All-Ivy and
eight-time second-team All-Ivy selection his first three seasons.
In addition to his work in the pool, he has authored six feature film
scripts and numerous short film and TV scripts and is writing a screenplay
currently under option at Asylum Entertainment in Los Angeles. He is also
the founder and Co-President of Nightfall Films, Harvard's undergraduate
filmmaking club.
