competition at the NCAA Championships held at the King County Aquatic
Center.
Junior Eric Lynch

placed 18th in the finals of the 1650 freestyle event with a time of
15:11.36.
Earlier Saturday in the preliminary races, senior Geoff Rathgeber

finished 24th in the 200 breaststroke, as the senior touched the wall in
1:59.08.
Rathgeber earned All-America status Thursday in the 200 IM, and followed
with All-America honorable mention Friday in the 400 IM event. He was
sixth with a mark of 1:45.61 in the 200 IM, and was 11^th in the 400 IM
(3:47.65).
In the 200 butterfly, junior Bill Jones

finished 11th in the 400 IM at the NCAA Championships Friday evening at
King County Aquatic Center.
With his time of 3:47.65, Rathgeber earned All-America honorable mention
status.
Earlier in the day, Rathgeber placed 13th in the 400 IM preliminaries,
touching the wall in 3:48.32. Rathgeber earned All-America recognition
in the 200 IM Thursday with the sixth best mark (1:45.61).
In the 100 butterfly, junior Bill Jones

opened the 2008 NCAA Championships Thursday with an All-America finish
in the 200 IM, taking sixth in the event with a time of 1:45.61.
This is the second straight season that Rathgeber had an All-America
performance in the 200 IM, as he took 11th (1:45.37) in last year's meet
in Minneapolis, Minn.
Rathgeber, who is making his third trip to nationals, tied for seventh
in the 200 IM preliminaries earlier Thursday at King County Aquatic
Center with a mark of 1:45.00.
The senior earned 13 team points with his sixth-place finish in the
finals. Darian Townsend of Arizona won the 200 IM, grabbing the wall in
1:42.72.
Rathgeber, a seven-time Ivy League champion this season, will also
compete in the 400 IM Friday and in the 200 breaststroke Saturday during
the three-day competition at the NCAA championships. Rathgeber is a
21-time Ivy champion during his career and was the 2008 recipient of the
Philip Moriarty Award as the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the EISL
Championship, as well as the Harold Ulen Award for most career points.

of the No. 22 Harvard men's swimming and diving team was honored with
the Philip Moriarty Award as the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the Ivy
League Championship, as well as the Harold Ulen Award for most career
points. Rathgeber picked up seven All-Ivy first-team selections, leading
a group of 10 Crimson swimmers that earned All-Ivy League distinction at
the meet last weekend at Blodgett Pool.
Harvard (9-0, 8-0 EISL, 7-0 Ivy League) set five pool records during the
tournament, six team records, and swam 28 NCAA "B" qualifying times.
Rathgeber had NCAA "A" cuts in the 200 IM (1:45.62) and 400 IM
(3:47.83). In all, seven Harvard team members earned multiple first-team
All-Ivy honors.
The Crimson won 13 events at the meet, finishing with 1,564 points, well
ahead of second-place Princeton (1,208.5). Harvard has now won 20 EISL
championships.
Rathgeber won the 200 IM, the 400 IM and the 200 breast as an individual
swimmer, and captured four relay races, including the 200 freestyle, 400
freestyle, 200 medley and the 400 medley. With the seven victories this
year, Rathgeber is now a 21-time Ivy League champion in his career.

*CAMBRIDGE, MASS. -* The No. 22 Harvard men's swimming and diving team
captured three events on the final day of competition and 13 overall en
route to claiming the 2008 EISL Championship Saturday at Blodgett Pool.
The win caps a perfect 9-0 season for Harvard and marks the 20th EISL
title for the Crimson, the first since 2005. The Crimson also claimed
the Ivy League and EISL regular-season titles this year.
The Crimson finished the meet with 1,564 points, well ahead of
second-place Princeton (1208.5). Yale (925), Columbia (913.5) and Navy
(869.5) rounded out the top five team finishers.
Harvard got a huge boost in the opening event of the final day, placing
six swimmers among the top 12 finishers in the 1650-yard freestyle,

In the three-meter diving event, the Crimson received strong showings
from Luke Sanders and Zac Ranta

scored 324 points for a third place finish.

Rathgeber also received two awards at the end of the meet. The senior
was presented with the Philip Moriarty Award, given to the meet
outstanding swimmer, which he shared with Yale's Alex Righi, and the
Harold Ulen Award with is the career high point prize. Rathgeber won
three meets during the weekend, including the 200 breaststroke, the 200
IM and the 400 IM.
While the team season is over, Harvard has a number of individuals that
will be making appearances at the NCAA Championships, starting March 27
in Federal Way, Wash.
