*Four Swimmers, Team Honored for Academics
Crimson owns nation's No. 7 GPA; Cromwell named all-academic*
*July 14, 2006*
*CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - * The Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of
America has once again recognized the Harvard men's team with a team
academic award, while four Crimson swimmers, led by all-academic
selection David Cromwell
<http://gocrimson.collegesports.com/sports/m-swim/mtt/cromwell_david00.html>,
have earned individual honors. Mark Knepley
<http://gocrimson.collegesports.com/sports/m-swim/mtt/knepley_mark00.html>,
Pat Quinn
<http://gocrimson.collegesports.com/sports/m-swim/mtt/quinn_pat00.html>
and Sam Wollner
<http://gocrimson.collegesports.com/sports/m-swim/mtt/wollner_sam00.html>
have received CSCAA all-academic honorable mention.
Harvard had the nation's seventh-highest grade-point average among NCAA
Division I men's teams in the spring semester, earning the CSCAA's team
academic award, an honor the Crimson also received for its classwork
during the fall. Harvard was one of just eight schools to achieve the
rating of Superior with a GPA of 3.25 or better in the spring.
Rising juniors Quinn and Wollner and 2006 graduate Knepley earned
all-academic honorable mention for hitting NCAA "B" cuts during the
2005-06 season and posting GPAs of 3.5 or better for the year, spring
semester or cumulatively.
Cromwell earned the national honor by meeting the GPA requirements and
qualifying for the NCAA Championships, where he placed fourth in both
the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, leading the Crimson to a 20th-place
team finish. He finished his career as a seven-time All-American and
17-time EISL champion.
The awards wrap up another season full of honors for the Crimson, which
shared the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League dual meet
championship with a 7-1 EISL record and an 8-1 overall mark. Harvard
finished the season ranked 22nd in the CSCAA national poll.
