Men's Swimming and Diving Moves Up to No. 22 in Latest CSCAA National Poll

*CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- *After finishing the regular season with an 8-1
record, the Harvard men's swimming and diving team has moved up to No.
22 in the latest College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)
national poll. The Crimson was previously ranked 25th in the country.
Harvard opened the year with seven straight victories against
Dartmouth,Cornell, Columbia, Arizona State, Navy, Penn and Brown. The
Crimson also placed second at the prestigious Georgia Invitational in
December. The team then hosted the annual HYP meet at Blodgett Pool
Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Harvard topped Yale, 251-102, but lost to Princeton by
a score of 193-160, preventing the Crimson from its second consecutive
undefeated regular season.
Harvard finished the Ivy League portion of its schedule 6-1, good for
second in the conference. Up next, the Crimson will look to capture its
third straight ECAC Championship, which the team will host at the
friendly confines of Blodgett Feb. 27-March 1. Since the 2003-04 season,
Harvard owns a 20-1 record at home.
The team will then travel to Princeton for the Ivy League Championship
(formerly EISL Championship), scheduled for March 5-7. Harvard won last
year's EISL title at Blodgett and has claimed 20 conference crowns in
program history.

Guernsey Named ECAC Swimmer of the Week

of the Harvard men's swimming and diving team has been tabbed the ECAC
Swimmer of the Week after winning three events and posting four NCAA "B"
qualifying times during last weekend's HYP meet.
The Crimson co-captain claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:36.16 and helped
Harvard to wins in the 200 medley relay in 1:28.52 and the 400 medley
relay with a mark of 3:14.18, all of which were NCAA "B" cuts. The
native of Essex, Conn., also posted a third-place finish in the 100
freestyle, touching the wall in 43.55 for his fourth "B" time of the
weekend. He was also named the COOP student-athlete of the week for his
effort at HYP.
Guernsey and the Crimson concluded its regular season with an 8-1
overall record and 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. Harvard will host the
ECAC Championships Feb. 27-March 1 at Blodgett Pool before heading to
Princeton, N.J., for the Ivy League Championships March 5-7.
