Hello from Blodgett
First, I was remiss not to include this in my last newsletter. When
looking for a Friends Chair you need to find a person who holds a
special place for Harvard Swimming. When we needed someone to replace
Jeff Peltier, Stephen Root stepped up as one of those people. His
service on the Friends behalf was instrumental in the success of the
75th celebration and instilling the word team back into our alumni base.
I am grateful of his time and efforts in support of Harvard Swimming.
Please join me in thanking Stephen for his time served as Friends
Co-Chair. We wish him and his growing family all the best.
The Harvard Men's Team cracked the College Swimming Coaches
Association Division 1 NCAA Top 25 coming in at 24th after our strong
performance at the Georgia Invite. Next, we head off for the warm
weather in Puerto Rico for our winter training trip.
We return to fact Rutgers University at home on Jan 6th then down to
Annapolis to race Navy on Jan 7th. Coming out of exams and turning
for the final stretch we have our final 3 meets at home against Brown on
Jan 27th, HYP on Feb 3-4th, and conclude our dual meet season with Penn
on Feb 11th. We hope you are able to come and support our efforts.
Denis Sirringhaus '99 joins Friends from his second year at Wharton
Business School and is excited to get alumni more involved with the
current teams. Denis previously helped fund raising efforts with the
Harvard
Senior Class Gift and organized charitable fund raisers while living
in New York City. He's looking forward to hearing from alumni about new
ideas and updates (dsirringhaus(a)post.harvard.edu

and will be in touch
in the coming months.

/SWIMMER OF THE WEEK/
DAVID CROMWELL - Harvard
Senior, Missoula, MT
Cromwell's win in the 100-yard backstroke in 48.02 seconds was one of
his three top-three individual finishes, all in NCAA provisional
qualifying times, as he led Harvard to fourth place behind only three
ranked teams in Georgia's Bulldog Invitational. He also led off three
top-three relay teams, including a second-place, NCAA "B"-cut
performance in the 400 medley relay (3:17.97). The senior added another
sixth-place individual finish and two other top-five relay showings. He
met the NCAA "B" cut by placing second in the 200 back (1:44.82) and
third in the 100 fly (48.64). Only four swimmers in Division I are
listed with faster times than Cromwell in the 200 back, while only seven
are ahead of his time in the 100 back on the national top times list.
