Hey everybody,
I just wanted to give you a heads-up for the arts-related events we have
coming up this week. There will be two films:
The first (/New Life/) is being screened this Sunday (i.e. TOMORROW) at
7pm at the Harvard Film Archive. I'll be taking a group there from
Dudley House at 6:45pm. Here's an overview:
Philippe Grandrieux's work plunges us into every kind of obscurity:
moral ambiguity, narrative enigma, literal darkness. /La Vie
Nouvelle// /presents four characters in a severely depressed Sarajevo
who are caught in a mysterious, death-driven web: the feckless American
Seymour (Zach Knighton), his mysterious companion (lover? friend?
brother? father?) Roscoe (Marc Barbé), the demonic Mafioso Boyan (Zsolt
Nagy), and the prostitute-showgirl who is the exchange-token in all
their relationships, Mélania (Anna Mouglalis).
The second (/Lost in Translation/) is being shown Saturday, Feb. 27th in
Dudley's Graduate Student Lounge at 7pm. Snacks will be provided. For
those who haven't seen this movie:
Two lost souls visiting Tokyo -- the young, neglected wife (Scarlett
Johansson) of a photographer and a washed-up movie star (Bill Murray, in
an Oscar-nominated role) shooting a TV commercial -- find an odd solace
and pensive freedom to be real in each other's company, away from their
lives in America.
I hope to see you there!
-Charlie
