*Preregister for an Artist **Workshop: Strategies for Reception*
Brooklyn-based painter, video blogger and local art historian *Loren
Munk*will offer a workshop at Dudley on "*Strategies
for Reception*." Aspiring artists and creative communicators of all kinds
will learn ways to use the internet and the world around them to enhance
visibility. The workshop will present systematic and spontaneous ways to
promote creative work, curate an online presence, and to stay culturally
aware---and keep track of the art scene---one day at a time. Skills and
techniques discussed will include blogging, vlogging, social media, and old
fashioned leg-work. Drawing on his years of producing the NYC art vlog
the "*Kalm
Report*," which has over 8,000 subscribers worldwide, Munk will walk
participants through the nuances of editing and posting YouTube videos, and
how uses of linking and metatext can amplify response.
Participants should bring a laptop computer if possible.
The workshop will be held *Wednesday, March 12 at 7-8:30 in Dudley
House*(room TBA). Cost will be $5 per person, with space limited to 15
students.

*Instructor background:*
*Loren Munk* is a Brooklyn-based painter, video blogger, and NYC local art
historian. Since he was arrested in the 1980s for graffiti tagging, Munk
has been making waves in the New York art scene. With his ear close to the
ground, Munk paints vibrant, painstakingly accurate *charts and
maps*<http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/30/arts/design/loren-munk-location-location-…>tracing
art movements, galleries, and communities that reflect New York's
unique position at the intersection of local and international art. Munk's
approach to creative communication, promotion, and community-building is
aimed at giving both theoretical and practical traction to the role of
working artists within "art history," so often narrated as a linear parade
of 'great' figures and movements.
Alongside his project of aestheticized art history, Munk has become
notorious in the city's art world for the *Kalm
Report*<http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/25/nyregion/via-youtube-painter-loren-munk-g…>,
a video blog that lets viewers around the world wander virtually through
New York galleries and museums. The over 500 videos in his repertoire have
garnered more than 8,000 YouTube subscribers, and three million unique
views on YouTube. Visit his *website* <http://www.lorenmunk.com/> to find
out more.
Munk will visit Harvard's* 29 Garden Street Arts Space on Thursday, March
13 at 7 pm* to speak on the topic of "*Art History and You: What, Why, and
How*." He will also give a *workshop at Dudley on Wednesday, March 12, at 7
pm*.
