Thursday, February 10, 7pm at the New College Theatre, 10 Holyoke Street
Join us for a jazz masterclass with the triple-Grammy-nominated Tierney
Sutton Band,
comprising acclaimed vocalist Tierney Sutton and instrumental virtuosos
Christian Jacob, Trey Henry, Kevin Axt and Ray Brinker. According to “Jazz
Times,” “[Tierney] Sutton's brilliance is her ability to blend seamlessly
with her superlative bandmates.” Sutton and her quartet will share that
brilliance at a master class featuring undergraduate singers and players,
free and open to the public, co-sponsored by the Celebrity Series of Boston
and Learning From Performers at the Office for the Arts at Harvard. We will
meet on the Dudley steps at 6:30pm to walk over. Contact Ivanna Yi (

pregnant, his family gives him the boot, he gets embroiled in a restaurant
feud and he attracts unwanted attention from the mob. Contact Charlie
(marcrum@fas) for more information.

Outing to “Gestural Engineering: The Sculpture of Arthur Ganson” at the MIT
Museum*

Self-described as a cross between a mechanical engineer and a choreographer,
Arthur Ganson creates contraptions composed of a range of materials from
delicate wire to welded steel and concrete. Most are viewer-activated or
powered by electric motors. All are driven by a wry sense of humor or a
probing philosophical concept. Admission is free. Bring your Charlie card or
cash for the T. Contact Charlie (marcrum@fas) for more information.

*Contemporary Chinese Landscapes at the Sackler Museum*
Friday, February 25, 3pm at the Sackler Museum
Join us for a viewing of “Brush and Ink Reconsidered: Contemporary Chinese
Landscapes,” a special exhibition at the Sackler Museum. The installation
offers highlights from the Harvard Art Museums’ growing collection of recent
Chinese ink paintings, which invite us to examine the meaning of
“contemporary” in non-Western contexts. While using traditional materials,
formats, and subjects, the 11 artists represented employ new techniques and
work in styles that draw on both Western and Chinese sources. Free with
Harvard ID. We will meet at 3pm in the Sackler Museum lobby. Contact Ivanna

Gallery Talk at the Sackler Museum: “Identity and the Art of the Middle
Ages”*
Saturday, Feb. 26th @ 11am, Arthur M. Sackler Museum
Arthur Kingsley Porter, professor of medieval art at Harvard between the
world wars, saw in the sculpture of the Middle Ages a Europe unconcerned
with national boundaries. His view was uniquely American, and much of
Harvard’s medieval art came to Cambridge because of his innovative thinking.
This talk by Charlotte Gray, Agnes Mongan Curatorial Intern, will consider
works in their medieval and later contexts, focusing on issues of style and
recognition, propaganda, and modern notions of the nation-state. Free with
Harvard ID. Contact Charlie (marcrum@fas) for more information.
