help collaborate on an installation piece for the Loeb lobby in conjunction
with the American Repertory Theatre's production of The Blue

"Dada", an anarchist cultural movement active in Europe after the first
World War.
Students are welcome to collaborate on the installation currently being
built in the Arts Space at Adams House on Linden Street, and those

DUDLEY STUDENTS: MEET ARTIST RUTH BAUER, AND DECK THE HALLS WITH DADA!
Sunday, Oct. 17, 2pm in the Dudley Fireside Room
Visual artist Ruth Bauer is the co-creator (with composer Jim Bauer) of “The
Blue Flower,” a multi-media theater piece presented by the American
Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in December
(*http:/www.theblueflower.org/<http://www.theblueflower.org/>
*). The production is a collage of music, film and stage action inspired by
Dada, the anarchistic cultural movement that flourished during the early
20th century and was a precursor to surrealism, Pop Art, punk, New Wave and
other modern art forms.
To set the mood and historical timeframe for the play’s audience, Ms. Bauer
is inviting Harvard students to create a collaborative Dada-inspired
environment that will be installed in the Loeb Drama Center lobby. Using
recycled materials and found objects, students will build large assemblages
that will be installed in the Loeb prior to the opening of “The Blue Flower”
on December 1. All Harvard students are invited to participate, regardless
of skill level or art-making experience.
Students are invited to meet Ruth Bauer on Sunday, October 17 at 2 pm in the
Fireside Room at Dudley House to discuss the installation project and the
“The Blue Flower.” A limited number of students also have the opportunity
to participate in a very special visit to the Harvard Art Museum’s
Somerville storage facility on Wednesday, October 20 to view works of art in
the Busch Reisinger collection that will serve as inspiration for the
installation. For more information about the project and to RSVP for the
museum visit, contact Thomas Lee, lee16(a)fas.harvard.edu, 617.495.8676.
Ruth Bauer’s Harvard residency is co-sponsored by Learning From Performers
(Office for the Arts), A.R.T., Harvard Art Museums and Adams House.
