OCTOBER 2010
The Dudley drawing and painting class meets on Saturdays, 2-4:30pm, in the
Dudley House Private Dining Room. Class size is limited to 15 students. The
current 6-week session is now full, but contact Ivanna Yi (
iyi(a)fas.harvard.edu) to be placed on a waiting list for the following 5-week
session, beginning on Oct. 23rd. $25 plus cost of materials.
SwingCrimson
Swing dance lessons held every Monday evening, from 7-8:30 pm, at the
Northwest Lab Cafe. Beginners welcome, no partner necessary. $3/class.

Coraline (USA, 2009) - In this Oscar-nomiated animated feature, curious
young Coraline unlocks a door in her family's home and is transported to a
universe that strangely resembles her own - only better. But when her Other
Mother doesn't want Coraline to return to reality, she must find the courage

Sunday, October 10, 2pm, Harvard Museum of Natural History
Wonder at the glass flowers at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, a
collection of over 3,000 models created over a span of five decades! We will
meet at 1:45pm in front of Dudley, or 2pm in front of the museum at 26

Pan's Labyrinth (Mexico, 2006) - Living with her tyrannical stepfather in a
new home, 10-year-old Ofelia feels alone until she explores a decaying
labyrinth guarded by the mysterious Pan, an ancient satyr who claims to know
her destiny. If she wishes to return to her real father, Ofelia must
complete three terrifying tasks in this Oscar-winning fairy tale for

Friday. Oct. 15, 2-4 pm, Graduate Common Room
First session of the 2010-2011 Dudley Drama troupe, which provides a forum
for Dudley members interested in theatre production. We will be scheduling
regular workshops, hosting speakers, and organizing outings to local
productions through the year. All levels of experience welcome. Email

Thursday, Oct. 21, at 8pm, Symphony Hall, Boston
The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Pinchas Zuckerman perform the Beethoven
Violin Concerto; the BSO also performs Barber’s *Overture to The School for
Scandal* and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Tickets are sold out, but we hope
to plan another outing to the BSO in the spring.
Friday, October 29, 8pm, John Knowles Paine Concert Hall
The Chiara Quartet, Blodgett Artists-in-Residence at Harvard, performs
Beethoven quartets: Op 18 No. 5 in A Major; Op. 59 No. 2 in E Minor; Op. 130
in B-Flat major. The concert is free but tickets are required; free tickets
are available beginning October 15th at the Harvard Box Office in Holyoke
Center, Harvard Square. We will meet at 7:30pm in front of John Knowles
