*Dudley Arts Events for March 2011*
* *
*New Dudley Art Class, "Drawing in the Sackler Galleries"-- Registration
begins Wednesday, March 9th*
The new five-week Dudley arts class on acrylics will meet on Saturdays,
2-4:30pm, in the Sackler Galleries, from March 26-April 23rd. through
March 5th. We will be sketching from sculptures and paintings from the
Sackler's collections. The Registration for the class begins this Wednesday,
March 9th. The course, open to Dudley House members, is limited to 15
students so that there will be time for individualized instruction; spaces
will be filled according to who signs up first. The cost for the course is
$25, which needs to be paid in full at the time of registration. The cost of
materials for the course will be approximately $20 for drawing paper and
pencils. Some drawing experience may be helpful, but beginners are also

*Swing Dance Series (6 classes)*
A new series of swing dance lessons begins this month, which will be open
to all levels of experience, no partner necessary. Perfect time to hone your
skills for the spring swing. Lessons will be held at Holden Chapel on
Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm. Sign-ups begin March 21st at the
Dudley House Office. Cost is $20. Lessons will run from March 29th through

*Outing to a Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra Concert*
Friday, March 4th, 2011 8pm, Sanders Theatre

Join us for a concert of Harvard’s oldest and largest orchestra. Conducted
by Nico Olarte-Hayes, the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra performs* *Tchaikovsky’s
*Romeo and Juliet, Fantasy Overture*,
Tchaikovsky’s *Piano Concerto No. 1*(Damon Meng, 2010 James Yannatos Concerto Competition
Winner, soloist), and
Stravinsky’s *Firebird Suite*. Tickets can be purchased at the Harvard Box

*Outing to “The Bible in Type” Exhibit at the Houghton Library*

Friday, March 11 at 2pm at the Edison and Newman Room, Houghton Library
Join us for an outing to view “The Bible in Type From Gutenberg to Rogers:
An Exhibition Commemorating the Four-Hundredth Anniversary of the King James
Bible” exhibit at the Houghton library.* *Throughout the history of
printing, the ability to create a typeface and layout suitable for
presenting the Biblical text has been regarded as the greatest test of
talent and the ultimate proof of achievement for the typographer or book
designer. Commemorating the four-hundredth anniversary of the publication of
the King James Bible (London, 1611), this exhibition presents a small number
of Bibles renowned for their typography or design. We will meet in the lobby

*Outing to Elevator Repair Service's production of Hemingway's The Sun
Also Rises*
Sunday, March 20th, 2pm.
New York-based theatre ensemble group Elevator Repair Service, renowned for
their adaptions of major works of literature for stage, will be performing
Hemingway's novel for one week at Boston's Paramount Theatre. A limited
amount of discounted tickets will be available through Dudley House

Thursday, March 24th @ 7pm, Graduate Student Lounge
Oscar-nominated for Best Picture, this unnerving sci-fi thriller stars
Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb, who earns a tidy sum infiltrating the dreams
of corporate titans to steal their most closely held secrets. Tapped by a
rich industrialist for a job involving a rival's heir, Cobb marshals a team
of specialists that includes his right-hand man (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), an

*Outing to Harvard Collection of Scientific Instruments*

Friday, March 25 at 3pm at Dudley House
Harvard University has been acquiring scientific instruments on a
continuous basis for teaching and research since 1672. The Collection of
Historical Scientific Instruments, which was established in 1948 to preserve
this apparatus as a resource for teaching and research in the history of
science and technology, has become one of the three largest university
collections of its kind in the world. Join us to view this rare collection!

Thursday, March 31st @ 7pm, Graduate Student Lounge
Director David Fincher's biographical drama chronicles the meteoric rise of
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) from Harvard sophomore to
Internet superstar, examining his relationships with co-founder Eduardo
Saverin and Napster founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake). Winning Golden
Globes for Best Picture and Best Director, the film also earned Oscar nods
