*Dudley Arts Events for October 2011*
*Outing to Symphony Hall: Boston Symphony Orchestra*
Saturday, October 1st, 8:00pm
Tomorrow, Oct. 1st, is the first Dudley Arts outing to the Boston Symphony
Orchestra: an All-Mozart program featuring violinist and conductor,
Anne-Sophie Mutter, performing Violin Concerti No. 1, 2 and 4. Tickets for
this event sold out several weeks ago. We will have future trips to the BSO;
if interested, be sure to buy your tickets soon after they go on sale. For
those of you attending Saturday's concert, we will meet at 6:45pm at the
Dudley House steps to take the bus #1 together to Symphony Hall. Contact

*Dudley Drawing Class*
Saturdays, 2-4pm, September 17-October 29, Private Dining Room
The first six-week session of the Dudley arts class will continue to meet on
Saturdays, 2-4pm in the Dudley Private Dining Room, through Oct. 29.
Registration for the next session on drawing and painting, which will meet
on Saturdays from Nov. 5-Dec. 3, begins on Monday, October 17 at Dudley

*Outing to the ICA*
Thursday, Oct. 6, 6pm, ICA, Boston
Join us for an outing to the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. On view
are Eva Hesse’s “studioworks,” experimental works that offer insight into
her creative process, and Leslie Hewitt’s “Riffs on Real Time,” a group of
photographs that explores the role of photography in recapturing the past.
Free with Harvard ID; open to all. We will meet on the Dudley steps at 6pm

*Trip to Salem and the House of the Seven Gables*
Saturday, Oct. 15th, 10:30am
115 Derby Street / Salem, Massachusetts
Join us for a trip to the historical town of Salem. We will leave from the
Dudley House steps at 10:30am to take the 12pm ferry from the Long Wharf
North in Boston directly to Salem. After exploring the town and visiting
Nathanial Hawthorne’s famous House of the Seven Gables, we will return to
Cambridge by train later that evening. One-way ferry tickets cost $10.50
purchased individually at the wharf; train fare is approximately $10
purchased at the station. Open to Dudley House members and their guests.

*Watercolors: Perspective (with Practice!) at the Museum of Fine Arts*
Sunday, Oct. 16 1:30-4pm
Museum of Fine Arts: 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA
Join us for an afternoon of watercolors! We will begin by attending the
Gallery Talk on the Around the World in Watercolor,
1860-1920<http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions/around-world-watercolor-1860-19…
at the Museum of Fine Arts, featuring “work by Americans who sought
adventure and inspiration for their art. They ventured across the Atlantic
and Pacific Oceans and traversed the American continent.” We will pay
special attention to use of colors and composition as we view the
collection. Then we will have a short studio art workshop to use fall colors
as inspiration for watercolors of our own. Open to Dudley House members and
their guests. Admission to the MFA is free with your Harvard ID. Details on

*Outing to Huntington Theatre Company’s production of Before I Leave You*

Join us for a performance by Boston’s leading professional theatre company!
The Huntington Theatre Company performs *Before I Leave You*, a play by
Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro set in Harvard Square. Emily’s world falls apart
when husband Koji suddenly embraces his Asian roots and her friend Jeremy's
work on his novel gets interrupted by a health scare. Four longtime friends
face too much past and too little future in this moving new comedy. Tickets
are $16, available to Dudley House members and their guests at the Dudley
House office beginning on Oct. 1st. We will meet on the Dudley steps at 7pm

*Chamber Music Initiative *
Join us on Saturday, Nov. 5th, at 4pm for the first concert in the Dudley
Arts chamber music series! The concert will be held at the Lily Pad gallery
in Inman Square, and the program will feature musicians from Harvard, the
New England Conservatory, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. If you wish to
perform on future concerts in this series, send names of musicians,

*Tango Argentino @ Dudley*
Thursday, Sept. 15th-November 17th, 8-10pm

The ten-week series of beginner & advanced beginner Argentine tango lessons
are well underway and will continue on Thursday evenings from 8-9:15pm and
9:15-10:15pm until November 17 in the Northwest Labs cafe. A guided
practica, free and open to all, is held from 9-9:15pm (between lessons) and
from 10:15-11pm (following the advanced beginner class). Class size is
limited, and registration is now closed. If you missed the deadline, contact
Thomas Wisniewski (twisniew(a)fas.harvard.edu) to be placed on the waiting
list for the next series of lessons, which will take place in the spring
semester.
