*Get Trained to Help Low Income Boston Residents File Taxes*
In a two-day workshop held at the Harvard Kennedy School on Feb. 1 and Feb.
8, students (and Harvard affiliates) have the opportunity to be trained as
volunteer tax filers. By attending these workshops and volunteering at an
ABCD tax center, you can help dozens of low income residents file their
taxes. Some will qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, a government
benefit that helps many make it through tough months.
No prior experience or tax knowledge required. To receive more information

*Waterworks Museum Visit*
Sat. Jan. 18, 2014 10am - 3pm
Join us for a field trip to Boston's Waterworks Museum! From the museum
website:
"Think back to 1880. Boston’s population had grown by more than 100,000 in
the last ten years. The city was welcoming many immigrants, and many of
these people lived in poor housing, with inadequate water supplies. People
often became ill. The conventional belief at the time was that disease was
spread by airborne vapors. The germ theory was just beginning to take hold,
but people were still largely unaware of the role that contaminated water
played in disease transmission.
The needs of an expanding population put enormous pressure on the city’s
water resources. The water supply was frequently insufficient, and what was
available was not always of good quality. The challenge: how to get clean,
potable water in abundant quantities to a city that kept growing."
Come learn how engineering, architecture, social history, and public health
came together to solve that challenge. We'll be meeting on the steps of
Dudley House at 10 am. RSVP to dudleypublicservice(a)gmail.com by Fri. Jan.
