The Research Science Institute (RSI) needs you to serve as a mentor for
its participants this summer, particularly if you are a bioscientist,
physicist, engineer, or environmental scientist! RSI is an intensive,
highly-compressed 6-week introduction to scientific research and discovery
for extremely bright rising high school seniors; it runs from late June
through early August.
Research projects are the centerpiece of the program. Over 4 weeks,
students work in academic, corporate, or government sponsored groups in the
Boston/Cambridge area under the guidance of their mentors. Questions that
are somewhat self-contained yet fit into the mentor's larger research
agenda, and tend to offer students a productive balance of apprenticeship
and autonomy make for the best mentorships.
If you have any questions about or are interested in becoming a mentor for
RSI 2014, please email the director, Dr. Andy Charman (acharman(a)mit.edu).
For more information about RSI, please read the attached letter. Feel free
to share this with postdocs in your lab or research group that you think
would be good as or willing to be mentors as well.
*TL;DR version*
