Hi all,
We are very excited to host our spring blood drive at Dudley with the Red
Cross on *Thursday, April 5* between 9:15 and 1:45pm. The whole process
takes about 15 minutes, and we'll provide plenty of snacks and juice to
keep you going through the day!
We are seeking volunteers to give 15 minutes of their time for this good
cause. Just one unit of blood can save a life! For example, Sarah's
grandfather was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and the multiple blood
transfusions he receives each week comes from healthy donors like you! Your
donation will go directly to patients in our community who need it most.
Please email us if you are interested in signing up! Thanks so much for
your consideration.
Best,
Sarah and Kezi

*Shift Descriptions*
*Dinner (6:45 PM - 9:15 PM)*
You'll be making and serving dinner, and perhaps be lucky enough to run on
a food salvage trip or to collect pastries from the many shops that donate
to us.
*Evening (9:00 PM - 11:15 PM)*
This is a relaxed time to visit with guests as they prepare for bed. It's
usually very quiet and a great opportunity for some wonderful
conversations. Help is also often needed in the kitchen to clean-up after
dinner and prepare plates of food to hand out at the door.
*Overnight (11:00 PM - 9:00 AM)*
You'll stay awake with other volunteers and night-owl guests, basically
having more good conversations, watching movies, doing laundry, reading,
baking cookies, etc! This is a fantastic shift because it's a rare
opportunity to have long conversations and get to know people well. People
often say it's the best shift! And never fear, we do take turns sleeping
-- the night is typically divided into three shifts (12-3 AM, 3-5 AM, 5-8
AM) and you will be awake for one of them (there is a staff room with bunk
beds, so you will be able to sleep when it is not your turn to be
awake). *Note:
Friday shift runs from 11:00 PM to 10:00 AM*
*Breakfast (6:30 AM - 9:00 AM)*
Come in bright and early to greet our guests as they begin to wake up!
You'll be making breakfast and helping to clean the shelter (an invaluable
service!) after all the guests leave at 8 AM. *Note: Saturday shift runs
from 7:30 AM - 10:00 AM.*

multiple shifts. If you'd be interested in picking up one of these shifts

Hi all!
I wanted to forward some exciting volunteering opportunities with HSHS and
Y2Y. They are especially looking for volunteers between March 9th -19th,
around spring break. Please see further information attached and reach out
to them directly if you are interested!

and Y2Y here <https://www.y2yharvardsquare.org/get-involved/>!*
Dear friends,
We're so excited to continue offering our own form of hospitality and
warmth to our guests this spring. But in order to operate our shelters
throughout spring break, *we will need your help.*
As many of you know, our shelters are staffed primarily by weekly,
student-volunteers from Harvard and surrounding schools. But over Harvard's
Spring break (03/09 - 03/19), the majority of our regular volunteers are
away from the Cambridge area. And so, over Spring Break, we turn to our
community members and students staying on campus to help staff our shelters
for our guests.
*If you'll be in the Cambridge area anytime between March 9th and March
19th, we could really use your help as a volunteer!*
We love having both individuals and groups sign up for these shifts! If you
have any questions, please reach out to Y2Y <y2y.volunteer(a)gmail.com> and/or
HSHS <hshs.volunteer(a)gmail.com> with your questions.
*Again, you can sign up with Y2Y here
<https://www.y2yharvardsquare.org/get-involved/> and HSHS here
<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17XHxax6Xq9gK-TDEthMZyfaz2--Q49T2MCc…>!*
Signing up for multiple shifts is encouraged! You can find more specific
instructions on the sign-up spreadsheets, and read up on the specific shift
descriptions at the bottom of this email. Anyone can volunteer with us - no
previous shelter experience is necessary.
Again, we just want to emphasize how important your contribution will be to
us this Spring Break, and we sincerely hope that you'll be able to share
some of your time and energy with us. Please pass this email along to any
of your friends, family members, or co-workers that might be
interested in volunteering at our shelters over Spring Break.
With much shelter love and gratitude,
Evan, Cora, and the HSHS and Y2Y Families
