Dear members of the Dudley Public Service Listserv,
Hi!
We have received a request from Bike Harvard GSAS, a student group with an
interest in cycling, to circulate the survey below. Please kindly add your
voice! It's a very simple survey. :)
Best,
Dudley Public Service Team

Dear Friends of Bike Harvard,
We hope you enjoyed refreshing weekends, even with weather on the gray
side! I write to you on behalf of a new(ish) organization called Bike
Harvard GSAS, officially listed as a graduate student group but with an
interest in cycling across the university. As we head into the 2017-2018
academic year, we are looking for ideas, organizers, and leaders, and would
love to hear from you! Please consider filling out our *interest survey
below**.*
*Fall 2017 Survey! *
Bike Harvard is looking to expand its activities based on *your *interests
and input. We focus on four key areas:
- *Community*: social events, community-building among Harvard cyclists
- *Outreach*: public service in the broader community, from high schools
to homeless shelters
- *Safety*: promoting safety education among all road users
- *Advocacy*: challenging Harvard and the City of Cambridge to be
leaders in safe road design
Do any of these areas sound intriguing to you? What sorts of activities
would you be interested in attending? What ideas do *you *have, that we can
help you realize? Let us know by filling out our *Fall 2017 survey*
<https://goo.gl/forms/rCHLTRykZQCxQnrt2>*!*
*If there are **bike-related **events or projects you’ve been thinking
about launching,** pitch those to us too, and** let us know how we can help
you with funding, resources, and organizational suppor**t!*
*New Leadership!*
*W**e are looking for new leaders**!* Our available positions are listed
below. These positions are all flexible: they can be as intense or as
low-key of a commitment as you like. If any of these interest you, please
list your email and position of interest at the bottom of the survey form
(linked above), and/or email us with your questions and thoughts!
- *Vice*-*President*: The VP helps to lead Bike Harvard by supporting
the officers in organizing events, publicity, website and online presence,
and envisioning new directions for the group. You can shape this position
however you’d like!
- *Treasurer-Secretary*: The Treasurer-Secretary handles funding through
the GSC, along with any external grant-writing or fundraising ideas he or
she wishes to undertake. This person also helps manage the email account
and online presence.
- *Director of Community / Outreach / Safety / Advocacy*: We seek a
Director for each of our four program areas. The Director is free to
generate and execute any ideas for events or projects that interest him or
her, within the designated program area. The Directors and the other
officers work closely to plan and organize events.
As mentioned above, these positions are built to allow you flexibility to
engage as intensively as suits your interests and your schedule. Let us
know if you have questions!
Ride on!

Subject: [Pbha-open] [Read me] Apply to Volunteer with Y2Y/HSHS -
Application Due 9/27!
Volunteer With HSHS/Y2Y This Semester!
Apply here <http://pbha.org/apply/> to volunteer with the Harvard Square
Homeless Shelter and Y2Y this fall! The priority deadline to apply is
Wednesday,
September 27th.
Dear friends,
For almost 35 years, the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter has operated in
University Lutheran Church, providing a safe and welcoming haven for
countless people experiencing homelessness. *And* *in December of 2015, Y2Y
Harvard Square officially opened its doors* for the first time to become
the nation's first student-run shelter specifically for homeless youth
between the ages of 18-24. Though we are separate shelters, we are united
in the fight against homelessness.
With our shelters opening on November 1st (HSHS) and October 15th (Y2Y), we
need your help! You can volunteer with us on a regular, weekly shift
(excluding Thanksgiving and Winter Break) by applying here
<http://pbha.org/apply/>, or by joining the HSHS
<http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/hshs-sub> or Y2Y

shelter in the nation!), our services or other volunteer opportunities,

Description of Shifts
Dinner: 6:45 PM - 9:15 PM
Evening: 9:00 PM - 11:15 PM
Overnight: 11 PM - 8:30 AM
Breakfast: 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM
*But if it is Saturday morning, then it is*
Friday Overnight: 11:00 PM - 10:00 AM
Saturday Breakfast: 7:30 AM - 10:00 AM
DINNER -- You'll be making and serving dinner, and perhaps be lucky enough
to run on a food salvage trip or collect pastries from the many shops that
donate to us.
EVENING -- This is a relaxed time to visit with guests as they prepare for
bed. It's usually very quiet and a great opportunity for some wonderful
conversations. Help is also often needed in the kitchen to clean-up after
dinner and prepare plates of food to hand out at the door.
OVERNIGHT -- You'll stay awake with other volunteers and night-owl guests,
basically having more good conversations, watching movies, doing laundry,
reading, baking cookies, etc! This is a fantastic shift because it's a
rare opportunity to have long conversations and get to know people well.
People often say it's the best shift! And never fear, we do take turns
sleeping -- the night is typically divided into three shifts and you will
be awake for one of them (there is a staff room with bunk beds, so you will
be able to sleep when it is not your turn to be awake).
BREAKFAST -- Come in bright and early to greet our guests as they begin to
wake up! You'll be making breakfast and helping to clean the shelter (an
invaluable service!) after all the guests leave at 8am.
