Hi All!
Dudley Public Service is launching a *Music and Memory **partnership* with
the Somerville-Cambridge Elders Services to facilitate and understand the
role that music plays in the lives of elders living with Alzheimer's and
Dementia.
We are looking for graduate students to help in a few volunteer roles for
this initiative:
- *Survey design*: you will work with the Music & Memory staff to develop
*and implement *a survey to track a variety of outcomes related to the
success of the Music & Memory program. These outcomes can range from
apparent physical or cognitive improvements, to satisfaction with the
program, to self- or caretaker-reported improved mental states. This is a
really neat opportunity to use your analytical skill sets and deploy a tool
that can be used nationwide at other Music & Memory local centers.
- *Music playlist development*: you will work in a team of students or
individually (your choice) with patients, families, and caretakers to
develop custom music playlists. This is a lovely chance to bond with these
patients, get to know their stories, and deliver joy in the form of music.
- *Media/graphic design (?):* we had a few suggestions to use graphic
design skills to improve recruitment for and community awareness of this
program. We’re definitely open to forming a team interested in doing this!
We were so excited to have many of you interested in volunteering your time
and skills with this great program, and we hope you have gotten a chance to
think about your ability to participate. We want to get a final sense of
volunteer numbers. If you are still interested in volunteering, please *reply
to this email* stating your interest. *We will try to connect you with
other students in similar interest areas. Once we get a good idea of
the number of people interested in the on-campus volunteer training
session, we will send out a doodle to pick the best time/date for
everyone. *Additionally, if you have friends that might like to participate
or volunteer with you, feel free to spread the word and loop them in.
We are excited to announce that we will be helping sponsor some *public
service funding opportunities* soon, in case you’d like to run with your
ideas a little further! Stay tuned on that.
If you have any questions on these roles, feel free to contact us directly.
The time commitment is entirely up to you; we’d welcome anybody with an
hour or so each week to spare, while expecting some variation around that.
We look forward to working with you!
Best,
Public Service Fellows
Dear all,
We wanted to send a quick reminder that we will be hosting an exciting *movie
screening* & volunteer info session *tomorrow night (Tuesday, Feb 13) at
7pm*-- *with a wine bar and popcorn!*
We'll be showing the heartwarming documentary "Alive Inside," about the
power of music in triggering memories and bringing joy to patients of
Alzheimer's and dementia.
Additionally, we'll be providing information on two volunteer opportunities
in our community, directly related to this initiative! They are:
1. Create custom iPod music playlists to deliver to memory-impaired
individuals in Cambridge/Somerville
2. Help develop an official survey to track the effectiveness of this
"Music and Memory" program
Poster below! RSVP is encouraged (link here
<https://dudley.harvard.edu/os_events/nojs/registration/1295484/0>) but not
necessary. Bring friends!
See you tomorrow,
Sarah and Kezi
Hi all,
We are excited to announce the rollout of a new programming campaign for
Dudley Public Service this semester!
We are partnering with the Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services and the
national campaign *"Music and Memory"* to develop and deliver *custom music
playlists* to patients of Alzheimer's and dementia in our community.
We invite you to a screening of the film *"Alive Inside"* on *Tuesday,
February 13 at 7pm* in the Graduate Student Lounge *(wine included!) *to learn
more about the power of music in bringing memories and joy to the
memory-impaired.
At the screening, we will be advertising two unique volunteer opportunities
with this program:
1. Work with the families of Alzheimer's and dementia patients to create
custom music playlists for these memory-impaired individuals
2. Help develop an official survey to track the effectiveness of this
program
We are therefore seeking anyone with a passion for service, music, working
with the elderly community, or lending their quantitative / survey design
skills.
See the poster below for details-- We hope to see you at the screening!
Best,
Sarah and Kezi
