B.1. *Franklin Teen Mentoring Program (New times available)*
Contact dudleypublicservice(a)gmail.com to participate or find out more
The Franklin Teen Mentoring program works with Dorchester teenagers in
grades 8-10 to build positive mentoring relationships that empower youths to
succeed in school and other endeavors, while engaging with their community.
Franklin Teen provides a free, firmly established, and constructive after
school program in a community where there is a general lack and
fragmentation of social services, especially for the young. Franklin Teen
meets preferably on Friday from 4 to 7pm including travel time (which we
provide for you). But you can choose other days according to your own
schedule if Friday doesn't work for you. No experience is necessary for
Franklin Teen; we are just looking for dedicated people who are excited
about mentoring teens!
Want to make a real difference in the life of a Boston youth? This
could be the chance you’ve been waiting for. Here are two
opportunities for Harvard graduate students to tutor or mentor a youth
in the Boston area.
The Franklin Teen Mentoring program works with Dorchester teenagers,
ages 12 to 16, to build positive, mentoring relationships that empower
youth to succeed in school and other endeavors, while engaging with
their community. Franklin Teen provides a free, firmly established,
and constructive after school program in a community where there is a
general lack and fragmentation of social services, especially for
youth. Franklin Teen meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7pm
including travel time (which we provide for you). Mentors can come
both days or choose one. We also go on about four field trips every
semester and highly encourage volunteers to attend at least two of the
trips. No experience is necessary for Franklin Teen; we are just
looking for dedicated people who are excited about mentoring teens!
The Smart Move volunteer tutoring program works with at risk 7th and
8th grade students at the Graham and Parks Alternative School. This
one-on-one academic mentorship program is flexible, convenient, and
meaningful for students and tutors alike. Paired with a student for
the duration of the school year, each mentor must commit to 60 minutes
per week of one-on-one attention, taking place at the Graham and Parks
School on Linnaean Street (near the Radcliffe Quad). Available time
slots are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45pm to
4:15pm. Minimum time commitment is 40 hours for the duration of the
school year (October through May).
Please contact Zhunan Chen or Michael Soskis at
dudleypublicservice(a)gmail.com if you would like to participate or find
out more information.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
