Dear Public Service enthusiasts,
You are invited to join us in on Wednesday, December 5 for our second
annual *Holiday Toy Stuffing Party*! Celebrate the last day of classes and
take a study break before reading period by helping us give back to the
community this holiday season
Dear Public Service members,
We are seeking additional volunteers for our Dudley group outing to the
Prison Book Program a week from today (11/15) in the evening, roughly
6:30-9pm.
*What to expect:*
We will spend the evening learning about the work done by the PBP to
distribute tens of thousands of books to incarceration centers around the
country - for the last 30+ years! During our shift, we'll respond to
hand-written book requests by prisoners, completing tasks including
locating, sorting and packaging requested books in the PBP's book warehouse.
*Please RSVP* to Dudley Public Service by replying to this email or by
going to this link
<https://dudley.harvard.edu/os_events/nojs/registration/1339030>.
Thank you!
In service,
Sarah & Danielle

Dear Dudley Public Service members,
*Happy November! *
We've loved your enthusiastic participation in our events this year so far.
Here are a few upcoming November events to mark your calendars for:
*November 4, 4-6pm*: *DEED Boston Launch Party* @ Harvard, Ticknor Lounge
(on-campus). We recently met the founders of DEED, an app for on-demand
volunteering, and they're having a pretty rad launch party on-campus this
Sunday, with lots of local sponsoring eateries and free stuff! Come for
some fun and goodwill! Check out the event on Facebook
<https://www.facebook.com/events/1914884012140525/>.
*November 6, 6:30-11pm*: *Midterm Election Watch Party *@ Dudley House
(stay tuned on the Facebook page for any location changes). Refreshments
and food will be provided. Come out and watch! Check out the event on
Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/events/217671105509819/>.
*November 13, 4-8pm*: *Thanksgiving Fall Family Festival + Food Drive* @
Dudley House. This one is aimed at the families and kids of the Harvard
community, but feel free to bring one canned good item and show up for
crafts that will remind you of your childhood: handprint turkeys,
Thanksgiving "crowns", and lots of paint. And Thanksgiving-themed movies,
snacks, and beverages, obvi! Details here

and *RSVP* to dudleypublicservice(a)gmail.com.
*November 15, 6:30-9pm*: *Prison Book Program small-group volunteer night*,

Since its inception in 1972, the Prison Book Program (PBP) has mailed tens
of thousands of books to prison inmates that support their educational,
vocational and personal development, which helps them avoid recidivism
after their release.
Join Dudley House in a site visit to the Prison Book Program's operating
headquarters in Quincy, MA, where we will learn about the program, read &
fulfill prisoners' hand-written requests for books in the book inventory,
and prepare & package the books for mailing.
